Parkinson’s Dance is a fantastic opportunity for people and their carers who are living with the challenges caused by Parkinson’s.
It helps to support balance, movement, voice and independence while providing a friendly social weekly class with time for tea, coffee and talking after the dancing. This is a joyous dance class with a high emphasis on fun and sociability. and the class ensures it covers all the movement exercises that are typically recommended for people with Parkinson’s in an artistic and enjoyable form. The class includes a variety of dance styles with a focus on posture, strength, coordination, balance, creativity and suppleness. There is also a vocal element to the classes to help with volume and vocal strength.
“The dancer commented: ‘you arrive hesitant because you might make a fool of yourself if you can’t do it’ but then as he told me later on, he found he could let himself go: ‘Not that I’m any good (at the dancing)! I just enjoy it, yeah let yourself go a little bit’.”
