Charity announcement June 2021

It is with great sadness that we have to share the following statement with you:

Statement from the Chair of Trustees of Sherborne Arts Link –

“On behalf of the Trustees of Sherborne Arts Link I am writing to report our decision to close the charity in September 2021.

This has been an extremely difficult and considered decision.   It has been taken now to give us the best opportunity to work towards sustaining as much of our activity as possible, through others, into the future.  We will be looking to pass on our financial legacy to organisations whose charitable objectives align with our own.

Arts Link has delivered many activities and special projects over the past 40 years, bringing arts and culture directly to the community. Our heartfelt thanks go out to everyone who has been involved during those years – to our donors, funders and supporters, our dedicated volunteers and tutors and especially to our staff.

We remain fully committed to the ethos and purpose of Arts Link and will do our utmost to ensure that any future plans build on the extraordinary work of the charity and secure a legacy that continues to enhance and improve lives through access to the arts and culture.”

We say THANK YOU to everyone who has contributed, supported, participated and been part of our creative family over the years.  It has been an amazing time!

We are sure that this news will raise some questions and hope that the following FAQ’s will help answer some of them.

Why and Why now?
The funding culture has changed significantly over the last few years and it has become harder for a charity of our size to independently generate the funds required to sustain a programme.  ArtsLink faces enormous challenges and uncertainties going forward.  Taking the decision to close now allows us to meet all our financial obligations, and explore supporting others to provide cultural projects that meet our charitable aims within the community.

What is happening to the health and wellbeing ArtsLink Fizz! project?
This project is currently funded by the National Lottery for four years and was due to finish on 30 April 2021.  Throughout the Covid pandemic we continued to support its beneficiaries and negotiated an extension for all groups until July, with the project ending in August 2021.
Artslink Fizz has been tremendously successful in supporting participants and making a real difference to people’s lives.  We are currently engaging with other organisations and funders to seek to secure continuation of this valued provision within the area.

I’ve been in involved in ArtsLink activities and events – what happens next?
We understand how important attending ArtsLink’s activities and events have been for so many of you.  We are sad to be unable to offer any more of these ourselves.  As much as possible we will connect you with opportunities delivered by others and will share information through our website, social media and via newsletters.

What next?
As we close the charity we are working with others to achieve an ArtsLink art and cultural legacy that can be sustained for the community.
